“I want to make something that has a lot of cool sounds and textures and I want to combine it with some good old fashioned catchy song writing,” French said. “As time keeps passing by/ My fate is clear/ I will rot instead of die,”įrench sings against a vulnerable guitar and synth, ending the EP on a dark and reflective note.Īfter closing this project, French is already on the next thing. French writes about the abandoned Houston Astrodome, once nicknamed “The Eighth Wonder of the World”, the title of this song. It’s not a very human friendly way of life,” French said.įrench ends the EP with a song in a similar vein to the opening track “Over and Over”. “The whole thing about American Architecture is about how in America we always spend way too much time in the car, and everything is just such a pain. The track starts off bare with a repeating synth pattern and builds to a more energized alternative-rock sound towards the middle of the song.

“I just decided I’d spin a tale about a girl who sees a horrible car crash and has a breakdown,” French said.

In an effort to switch up the energy in the EP, French wrote and recorded “Madison Goes to the Grocery Store” two days in time for his deadline. His melodies feel more reflective and at peace than the previous songs, tapping into the nostalgia this release is rooted in. It was Abby's line, “improve the national parks into national parking lots”' which inspired French to write this track.įrench switches from alternative to country on his third track, "Light Pollution" inspired by George Strait.įrench sings over a calm western guitar. "Oh, would you look at 'em go?/ Turnin' all the rivers to stone".įrench was inspired by the book “Desert Solitaire: A Season in Wilderness” by Edward Abbey, an autobiography about his experiences living three seasons in the Utah desert. In the next track "National Parking Lot" French lays out his concerns around environmentalism. The song specifically references landmarks in Austin where he would visit his grandmother “Gabbo”. Since the music video was to be shot in Austin, Texas, French decided to write about his memories there.

French decided to write the song after he was approached to collaborate on a music video by his friend Sam Roberts.
